Sorry I didn’t update yesterday – Dave finally made it home late Wednesday night & yesterday we spent the morning running errands, the afternoon putting purchases from said errands away, and the evening back at the clinic.
The ultrasound went GREAT!! Baby’s heartbeat averaged a strong, healthy 162 beats per minute & the ultrasound technician (the lovely Mindy) said that’s fantastic for this early in the pregnancy. Our little peanut was also extremely active, waving his/her little arm & leg buds around the whole time Mindy practiced her Olympic fencing techniques with the dildo cam.
She was also extremely reassuring & told us that based on the baby’s movements & the thunderous heartbeat, there’s no reason to believe that anything is wrong with the pregnancy. She said they can often tell if a woman’s pregnancy will end in miscarriage if the heartbeat is very weak, or if they can’t detect any movement, or if the fetus hasn’t grown.
I really, really, really wanted to find The Gynie God and kick him in the shins for causing everyone so much worry. But I decided instead that the best course of action will be to eat a couple cans of beans before my next appointment on the 18th. As soon as he bends down to gaze lovingly at my cervix …… poooooooooot.

We got a couple of pictures; but unfortunately, they came out blurry because our little drummer kept rocking out & wouldn’t sit still for longer than 3.2 seconds. Yeah, this baby is definitely going to take after it’s father!
By the time we left the clinic, Dave and I were both so happy and relieved. We made a side trip to Target & bought our first piece of baby paraphernalia: a stuffed musical Winnie the Pooh.

All in all, it was a pretty great day. Until the burning peepee returned in full force last night, and I had to drive myself back to the clinic for another bladder infection screening. 3 hours and one antibiotic later, I was back at home drinking cranberry juice & watching Baby Boom while fantasizing about life on a 62-acre farm in Vermont.
I don’t think I’ll start canning my own applesauce just quite yet, though.
